Class 1 Mandatory Entry Level Training Course (MELT)
Program Overview

Drivers seeking a Class 1 (tractor trailer) licence are required to complete mandatory training to apply for their commercial driver’s licence.
Training includes a government-mandated number of training hours for in-class, in-yard and in-vehicle modules with standardized curriculums being taught at our driving school.
Prerequisites for the course
- 18 years of age or older
- Hold a full Class 5 licence (non-GDL)
- Class 1 Medical Certificate (Recommended before registering)
What is included in the course?
- 57 hours of private driving instruction in truck.
- 47 hours in the classroom including the air brake course.
- 17.5 hours in yard training.
- Tractor-trailer for the driving test.
- A complimentary 3 hours of brush-up lesson before road test, truck rental included in the fee. (If needed, no additional truck rental for the 2nd road test)
How long is the course?
Average of 5 – 6 weeks.

There is no limit.
